DARO – After more than ten years of anticipation, residents of Daro will finally see the development of a modern health facility with the commencement of the RM46.8 million Daro Health Clinic (Type 4, Phase II) project.
The construction officially began on 4 February and is scheduled to be completed by 3 August 2028, following a 30-month contract period. The project is expected to transform healthcare services in the district, which have been operating under temporary arrangements since the destruction of the old clinic in a fire on 7 October 2015.
Dr Safiee Ahmad, State Assemblyman for Daro, highlighted the significance of the project during the launch ceremony held at Kampung Tengah last Friday. He explained that since the fire incident, medical services had been forced to function from a temporary clinic at the Daro Hospital Rest House, which lacked adequate facilities.
“Since the incident, health services have been forced to operate in a temporary clinic located at Daro Hospital Rest House with limited and deprived facilities. This situation not only presents a challenge to health workers but also creates difficulties for residents who seek treatment,” he said.
Dr Safiee added that the new clinic would provide modern, complete and comfortable facilities, ensuring better healthcare access for the people of Daro and surrounding areas. He expressed hope that the project would progress smoothly and be delivered on schedule through the cooperation of implementing agencies and contractors.
The development is being carried out by Dasanrama Sdn. Bhd. as the main contractor, with the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) Mukah Division acting as the implementing agency and project supervisor.
Local residents have voiced optimism that the new clinic will ease the burden of travelling long distances for treatment and provide a more conducive environment for patients and healthcare staff alike. The project is seen as a crucial step in improving healthcare infrastructure in rural Sarawak.
The ceremony was attended by several key figures, including Zul Usup, Daro District Officer; Ts. Awang Dasuki Awang Dol, JKR Division Engineer Mukah; DSP Rahim Mihos, Matu Daro District Police Chief; Dr Fatih Nuraf’idah Zulkifli, representative of the Mukah Division Health Officer; and Benedict Sunggoh, representative of the Petrone Mukah Division Resident.
With construction now underway, the Daro Health Clinic project marks a new chapter in the district’s healthcare journey, promising improved facilities and services for the community once completed.
