The projects include the construction of a central hall, a public square, and a waterfront area, all designed to serve as catalysts for socio-economic progress and community well-being.

Tan Sri Dato Sri William Mawan Ikom, Advisor to the Sarawak Premier’s Office for Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development, emphasized that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to uplift one of Sarawak’s most economically challenged regions.

Pakan District, historically identified as having the lowest household income in Malaysia, stands to benefit from improved facilities that could attract tourism and support local entrepreneurship.

The development plan aligns with ongoing state-level programs, such as the Basmi Miskin Tegar (BMT) initiative, which focuses on poverty reduction through projects like fish farming and vegetable cultivation.

Mawan noted that the new infrastructure will provide residents with modernized spaces for leisure and commerce, potentially creating opportunities for small businesses and community events.

The meeting with implementing agencies, held at the Advisor’s Office in Pakan, outlined the timeline and scope of the projects.

Authorities anticipate that the upgraded infrastructure will not only improve quality of life but also encourage investment in the region, addressing both immediate and long-term economic needs.
