RM73,500 Allocated to 25 Groups and Worship Centres in Pujut

MIRI – A total of RM73,500 in Minor Rural Project (MRP) grants has been distributed to 25 organisations, associations and houses of worship in the Pujut constituency. The handover ceremony, held at the Pujut Service Centre on Saturday, was officiated by Miri City Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang.

In his address, Adam Yii said the allocation reflected the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government’s commitment to safeguarding community welfare while fostering unity and harmony among residents. He emphasised that the grants were intended to support the activities of local organisations and strengthen grassroots development.

Adam Yii also highlighted the role of the Pujut Service Centre as a key channel for addressing public concerns and distributing assistance. He revealed that as of 30 October 2025, the centre had handled 1,747 cases, including 389 cases in the third quarter alone.

Complaints related to welfare and financial assistance for the B40 group were among the highest received. In addition, there were also applications for the Sarawak Poor House Improvement Programme (PPRMS), public complaints and applications for educational assistance,” he explained.

The grants were awarded to a wide range of recipients, including educational, cultural, welfare and sports organisations. Among them were the Miri Division Chess Association, the Miri Special Education School Parents and Teachers Association, the Miri Foochow Association, the Miri Malay Community Leaders Council (MAKMUM), the Miri X-Tune Archery Club, the Miri OKU Family Support Welfare Association OIKOS, the Sarawak Deaf Sports Association, and the Sarawak Disabled Organisation Miri Branch.

The MRP scheme has long been a mechanism for the Sarawak Government to channel funds directly to community-based groups, enabling them to carry out programmes that benefit local residents. In recent months, similar allocations have been made across constituencies in Miri and other divisions, covering areas such as education, cultural preservation, sports development and welfare support.

Adam Yii reiterated that the government’s priority was to ensure that no community is left behind, particularly vulnerable groups such as the B40 households, persons with disabilities, and students in need of educational support. He encouraged organisations to use the funds responsibly to deliver tangible benefits to their members and the wider community.

The ceremony also served as a platform to strengthen ties between local leaders and community groups, reinforcing the importance of collaboration in building a more inclusive and resilient society.
