KAPIT – Rural development efforts gained fresh momentum with the rollout of a new project under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) 2026 in Nanga Pelagus, focused on improving daily life for local communities.
The launch took place during a ceremony and leaders’ meeting at Annie Isop House in Nanga Pelagus, Batang Rajang.
The event was officiated by Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Works and Kapit MP. He was joined by Wilson Nyabong Ijang and Nicholas Kudi Jantai, along with other community leaders.
In his speech, Nanta outlined several key upgrades under RTP 2026. These include building a drainage ditch behind Annie’s House to improve infrastructure and reduce local issues tied to water flow.
He also announced RM30,000 for a new kitchen at Rumah Annie, along with RM5,000 each for Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) and Women’s Bureaus involved in the programme.
Healthcare and education were also part of the discussion. Nanta shared that talks are ongoing with the State Legislative Assembly to set up a clinic in Nanga Pelagus, which would bring medical services closer to residents.
He also contributed RM10,000 to the Parent-Teacher Association of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pelagus to support school needs.
Other leaders added their support. Wilson Nyabong Ijang pledged funds for the local JKKK and women’s groups, while Nicholas Kudi Jantai directed contributions toward strengthening women’s involvement in community development.
The initiative reflects a broader push to ensure rural areas are not left behind. Projects like these focus on practical needs, better infrastructure, access to healthcare, and support for education, all aimed at improving long-term living standards.
The programme also included a visit to a nearby longhouse development site, highlighting ongoing efforts to upgrade rural housing and facilities across Sarawak.
RTP 2026 in Nanga Pelagus shows a clear direction. Development is not limited to towns and cities. It reaches deep into rural communities, where steady improvements continue to shape safer, more comfortable living conditions for residents.
