KUCHING, 5 June 2025 — Sarawak’s popular Sarawak–Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H) program continues to gain interest from international residents, with nearly 600 applications approved in 2024. The same number is expected for this year, according to Sarawak Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He said that Sarawak is becoming a preferred destination due to its safe and peaceful environment, reliable healthcare services, and quality education system. These factors make the state attractive to foreign retirees and families.
“Many applicants from Europe and China are choosing Sarawak as their second home. Older applicants especially value the medical facilities here. Sarawak offers comfort, security and affordability — things many foreigners look for when they want to settle abroad,” he said.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim added that Korean parents have also shown interest in the S-MM2H program, especially for educational purposes. “They want their children to study in international schools here, such as Tunku Putra School, and many of them apply through this program,” he said.
He shared these insights during his speech at the Opening Ceremony of the Lions Clubs International District 308-A2 Leo Forum 2025, held at Raia Hotel and Convention Centre, Kuching on Thursday.
He said the approval rate for this year is expected to stay consistent with last year’s, reflecting the program’s strong and steady demand. Sarawak’s unique blend of modern facilities and cultural richness, combined with a lower cost of living, continues to make it a top choice for foreigners seeking long-term residence in Malaysia.
