8 Illegal Immigrants Detained in Joint Immigration Ops in Tenom and Keningau

8 Illegal Immigrants Detained in Joint Immigration Ops in Tenom and Keningau

TENOM, Nov 5: The Sabah Immigration Department continues to intensify its crackdown on illegal immigrants, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the state’s security and sovereignty.

In a recent two-day enforcement operation held from 4 to 5 November 2025, a total of eight undocumented individuals were arrested around the Tenom and Keningau districts. The operation, led by the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) Sabah, involved 18 officers from the Tenom and Keningau Immigration Offices.

According to the department, several integrated operations — including Ops Kutip, Ops Minyak, and Ops Beli-belah — were conducted in targeted areas believed to be hotspots for illegal activities. Out of the 65 individuals inspected, eight were detained for not possessing valid travel documents or permits.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the detainees consisted of Filipino and Indonesian nationals who failed to produce any legitimate immigration passes. All are being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, which covers offences related to illegal entry and stay in Malaysia.

The Sabah Immigration Department emphasized that enforcement efforts will continue aggressively across the state. The department also warned that strict action will be taken against any individuals or employers found harbouring or hiring illegal immigrants (PATI).

A spokesperson from the department urged the public to cooperate by reporting any suspicious presence of undocumented foreigners in their communities. “Community support is vital in helping the authorities maintain order and ensure Sabah remains secure,” the statement added.

The department further reiterated that no compromise will be given to those who break the law, especially in cases involving national security and public safety.
