KUCHING — The Sarawak United National Youth Organisation (SABERKAS) has reaffirmed its dedication to youth empowerment and community progress by successfully implementing 244 programmes between November 2024 and June 2025.
SABERKAS President and Sarawak Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, announced the achievement during a press conference following the 59th Supreme Committee Meeting held on Thursday.
The initiatives span across key areas including social welfare, sports, culture, education, skills training, women’s affairs, economic development, entrepreneurship, and youth leadership. “This figure reflects the high level of commitment and engagement of our 82 branches and 494 units throughout Sarawak,” Abdul Karim said.
He projected that the number of programmes will exceed 500 by the end of 2025, with more events scheduled in the second half of the year. These include Youth Glamping in Layar, Betong (August), the SABERKAS President’s Cup Futsal Championship (November), the Artificial Intelligence Literacy Programme and Tunas Madani Programme in Lundu, as well as agricultural and food security initiatives aligned with the state’s strategic goals.
He also highlighted the active role of the SABERKAS Women’s Affairs Bureau in organising family and grassroots community initiatives.
As of now, SABERKAS has recorded a membership of 55,992 across the state. Financially, the organisation remains strong, having invested RM3 million in fixed deposits from surplus funds. “This stable financial footing ensures we can implement long-term impactful programmes,” he noted.
Beyond youth development, SABERKAS also plays a humanitarian role through its Caring Unit, which has been active in disaster relief efforts, particularly during recent flood and fire emergencies in Bintulu and Miri.
Looking ahead, Abdul Karim shared his vision for SABERKAS to establish its own headquarters, complete with a multipurpose hall. “It’s time for SABERKAS to have its own dedicated facility, similar to Wisma Sabati, to support youth and community initiatives,” he said.
The meeting reinforced SABERKAS’ position as a dynamic organisation committed to fostering inclusive development and nurturing future leaders of Sarawak.
