GEDONG – The Samarahan Division’s 2025 Community Solidarity Wandering Programme (PRSK) has been launched with the aim of reinforcing social cohesion and expanding community networks across rural districts.
The initiative, coordinated by the Social Development Council under the Ministry of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing (KPWK), works in partnership with the Samarahan Division Resident Office and the Gedong District Office. It is designed to ensure that government services, social assistance, and community programmes reach residents in remote areas effectively.
Rodiyah Sapiee, Member of Parliament for Batang Sadong, highlighted that the programme’s activities, including the Mini Solidarity Town Hall, Community Solidarity Sports, and Community Solidarity Night, provide valuable opportunities for dialogue between citizens and the government.
“I highly commend the organisation of this PRSK where the presence of various activities gives us the opportunity to interact, exchange views and empower the community in order to realise the agenda of a Progressive and Prosperous Sarawak,” she said during the opening ceremony.
The PRSK also featured talks by government agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), alongside exhibitions on social services, advisory counters for government aid, health screenings, and mobile Rahmah Madani Sales. These sessions were intended to raise awareness of available support and encourage community participation.
As part of the event, Rodiyah presented ten fire extinguishers to the Tuai Rumah of Kampung Keniong Jaya, underscoring the importance of safety preparedness in villages. She also announced a major infrastructure project for the Ulu Gedong Zone – a 26-kilometre road linking Kampung Semalatong to Kampung Gedong. Once completed, the route is expected to cut travel time to just 25 minutes, significantly improving accessibility.
The project is part of wider rural development plans spearheaded by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who has emphasised that rural communities must not be left behind in the state’s growth agenda. The Premier has previously outlined road expansion and agricultural initiatives in Gedong, noting their potential to stimulate economic activity in farming and tourism.
Rodiyah stressed that the new road would deliver substantial benefits to local residents, particularly in enhancing agricultural trade and opening up tourism opportunities. “This project will have a huge economic impact, especially in the agriculture and tourism sectors,” she added.
The launch was attended by several senior figures, including Dato Sri Mohd Naroden Majais, Advisor to the Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED) and Special Representative of the Gedong Assemblyman, Riziandy Nawawi, Executive Secretary of the KPWK Social Development Council, Rais Ahmat, Deputy Resident of Samarahan Division, Tamida Da’adi, Gedong District Officer, and Suni Liam, Headman of Keniong Jaya Village.
The PRSK reflects Sarawak’s broader outreach strategy, which includes monthly programmes to ensure government services are accessible to all communities, particularly those in rural and remote areas. It complements ongoing development efforts under the Samarahan Integrated Regional Development Agency (IRSDA), which has already implemented hundreds of projects across the division.
