KUCHING – The annual Lambuk Porridge Distribution Programme for N7 Samariang was held on Saturday, 28 February 2026, at Surau Darul Amal in Kampung Samariang Pinggir, bringing together residents in a show of unity and cooperation.
This year, KJM Samariang Pinggir was given the honour of hosting the event, which has become a cherished tradition in the constituency. The programme reflects the strong community ties in the area, with residents working side by side to prepare and distribute the porridge.
Cooking began early in the morning, with volunteers from the KJM community, JKKK, and KRT Kampung Samariang Pinggir joining forces. The collaborative effort highlighted the neighbourhood’s commitment to fostering togetherness, especially during the lead-up to Ramadan, when bubur lambuk is widely shared across Malaysia as a symbol of generosity and unity.
A total of 550 containers of bubur lambuk were prepared and distributed to local families. The distribution was officiated by Mr. Ramli Omar Baki, Head of Development and Community Services Division of DBKU, alongside Sharifah Hasanah Wan Salay, Chairman of KJM Samariang Pinggir.
Also present were Puan Dayang Nazima Awang Drahman, N7 Samariang Community Officer, Head of the Haji Tribe Norjali bin Lek, and members of KJM N7 Samariang. Their attendance underscored the importance of community leaders in strengthening neighbourhood bonds and supporting grassroots initiatives.
The Lambuk Porridge Distribution Programme is not only a cultural tradition but also a social initiative that ensures inclusivity. By providing food to households, the event helps ease preparations for fasting and reinforces the value of sharing within the community.
Across Sarawak, similar porridge distribution activities have been organised in recent years, often involving mosques, suraus, and local councils. These programmes are widely recognised as platforms for encouraging volunteerism and nurturing goodwill among residents.
In Samariang, the event has become a highlight of the calendar, drawing participation from all age groups. For many, it is more than just a food distribution; it is a reminder of the enduring spirit of cooperation that defines the constituency.
As the containers of bubur lambuk were handed out, the atmosphere was filled with warmth and gratitude. The initiative once again demonstrated how collective effort can strengthen community ties, ensuring traditions remain alive while meeting the needs of residents.
