86 Fire Victims Sheltered at Sri Krian Community Hall PPS

SARATOK: A total of 86 victims of the Jantum Longhouse fire in Nanga Belangun, Ulu Krian, have been relocated to the Sri Krian Community Hall Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) after the incident destroyed part of their longhouse this afternoon.

The fire, which broke out around 1.35 pm, completely destroyed 16 doors of the Jantum Longhouse, leaving the affected families without shelter.

Following the incident, the Saratok District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) convened a briefing led by its chairman, who is also Saratok District Officer, Muhammad Dino Amid, to coordinate immediate assistance and the official opening of the PPS.

“I, Muhammad Dino Amid, as the Chairman of the Saratok District Disaster Committee, hereby officially declare the opening of the PPS at Sri Krian Community Hall, Saratok starting from 5.00 pm today,” he said during the briefing.

According to Saratok District Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Officer, Lieutenant Nur Athirah Batu, the evacuation process began promptly at 5.00 pm. All victims were safely transferred to the centre, where they are now receiving assistance.

She added that agencies involved are still actively registering the victims to ensure all affected families are properly documented before being placed at the community hall.

“Thankfully, no injuries or fatalities were reported in this fire as all victims managed to escape safely,” she explained. “We are deeply sympathetic to the families and hope they remain strong and patient while awaiting further assistance to be channelled.”

Meanwhile, efforts are still ongoing to verify the full number of victims affected by the blaze.

Also present during the PPS opening was Krian State Assemblyman (ADUN), Friday Belik, who expressed his concern and support for the victims.

The authorities assured that all necessary aid, including food, clothing, and basic needs, will be provided to ease the burden of the victims during this difficult time.
