Sarawak Allocates RM10 Million for Digital Health Clinics

GEDONG – The Sarawak Government has announced an allocation of RM10 million to implement a Cloud-Based Clinic Management System (CCMS) across 142 health clinics in the state, marking a significant step towards digitalising healthcare services.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg explained that the system would ease administrative tasks for doctors and nurses, allowing them to dedicate more time to patient care.

He added that patients would benefit from the ability to access their health records from any location, ensuring continuity of care.

Speaking at the launch of the Digitisation of Health Clinics Using CCMS and the Agenda Nasional Malaysia Sihat (ANMS) at Dewan Patinggi Ali, Gedong, the Premier emphasised that the initiative would strengthen Sarawak’s healthcare infrastructure. “Through the CCMS system, health clinics across Sarawak have access to the patient database,” he said.

In addition to the CCMS rollout, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) has provided eight mobile dental clinics, each valued at RM1 million, amounting to RM8 million in total.

These units are intended to improve access to dental care, particularly for rural communities. The mobile clinics will be based in Kota Samarahan and deployed to areas including Tambirat, Sebuyau, Sarikei, and Lawas.

Abang Johari noted that the number of mobile dental units could be increased if demand rises, reflecting the government’s commitment to expanding healthcare access in underserved regions.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, in his remarks, highlighted that Sarawak still has 117 health clinics and 49 dental clinics awaiting digitalisation, with construction costs estimated at RM16 million.

He expressed hope that cooperation between federal and state governments would ensure digital health services reach all Sarawakians, whether in urban centres or remote areas.

Dr Dzulkefly also announced a RM950,000 allocation for the Gedong Health Clinic to support operations and procure medical equipment, further strengthening local healthcare delivery.

The event was attended by senior leaders including Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Women, Child Development and Community Welfare Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Health Minister Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, and other federal and state officials.

The introduction of CCMS and mobile dental clinics reflects Sarawak’s broader strategy to modernise healthcare services, improve efficiency, and ensure equitable access to medical care across the state.
