Sarawak Allocates RM95 Million for First International Islamic School

Sarawak Allocates RM95 Million for First International Islamic School

KOTA SAMARAHAN, 24 Feb: The Sarawak Government has allocated RM95 million to build Sarawak’s first International Islamic School, a major step in strengthening Islamic education in the state.

Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that the initiative aims to enhance the intellectual and spiritual development of Muslim youth.

“This initiative is approved not only by Islamic leaders but is also supported by non-Muslim leaders,” said the Premier.

The Islamic International School will feature a full boarding concept, providing students with a modern science-based education while maintaining a strong foundation in religious studies. The goal is to produce a well-balanced generation equipped with both academic and spiritual knowledge.

Inspired by International Standards

To ensure high-quality education, the Sarawak Government is studying the Madrasah Aljunied Al-Islamiah model from Singapore, which incorporates the Cambridge International syllabus. This approach will help students excel in both Islamic and mainstream subjects, preparing them for global opportunities.

Premier Abang Johari shared this announcement during the 64th Sarawak Level Tilawah Al-Quran and Hafazan Ceremony at Suarah Hall, Kota Samarahan.

Strong Government Support

The event was attended by top Sarawak officials, including:

  • Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Speaker of the Sarawak State Assembly
  • Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries & Youth Development
  • Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak State Secretary
  • Datuk Misnu Taha, Adviser of the 64th Tilawah and Al-Quran Memorization Ceremony

This significant investment reflects Sarawak’s commitment to developing a new generation of Muslim scholars who are both academically excellent and spiritually grounded. – Sarawakku
