Sarawak Head Hosts International Anglican Delegates

KUCHING – The Head of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, today hosted a delegation from the International Anglican Interfaith Commission at the Astana Negeri Sarawak.

The meeting was led by the Anglican Archbishop of Kuching, the Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute, who chairs the international committee.

Central to the discussions was the reinforcement of inter-religious cooperation, with a specific emphasis on advancing mutual understanding, tolerance, and harmony between different faith communities.

The delegation’s visit underscores Sarawak’s significant role as a platform for interfaith dialogue within the Southeast Asian region and beyond.

Datuk Danald Jute noted that the committee acknowledges its responsibility in fortifying interfaith relations. He highlighted the state’s exemplary position in facilitating these crucial conversations.

The dialogue also covered the integration of global research on Anglican relations with other religions and the formulation of measures to help churches address contemporary religious and social concerns.

The International Anglican Interfaith Commission was established in October 2017 following a gathering of Anglican Primates in Canterbury, England.

Its global mandate is to support Anglican churches worldwide in their engagements with other faith groups. The committee’s membership reflects the wide geographical reach and theological diversity within the Anglican Communion.

The work of the commission champions the value of cooperation amidst diversity, advocating for dialogue and mutual understanding over division. The courtesy call served to strengthen these principles and explore avenues for continued collaboration.
