Sarawak Arts Awards 2025 Aims to Inspire Cultural Engagement

KUCHING – The upcoming Anugerah Seni Sarawak (ASS) 2025 is positioned as a significant cultural initiative designed to strengthen regional identity, promote heritage appreciation, and inspire youth participation in the arts.

Scheduled for October 22 at the Banquet Hall of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Complex, the event will showcase artistic performances and honor contributions to the state’s cultural landscape.

Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, emphasized that the awards transcend mere recognition, serving as a catalyst for societal progress and creativity.

“Anugerah Seni Sarawak is not only about celebrating talent, but also about cultivating love for our heritage and driving the state’s creative sector to greater heights,” he stated during a press conference at Baitulmakmur II.

This year’s edition received 92 nominations across diverse categories, including media supporters, government and corporate agencies, theatre, music, dance, and lifetime achievement awards.

Key accolades such as Tokoh Seni Sarawak, Kenyalang Opera, Sri Ritma Kenyalang, and Kesuma Kenyalang will be judged by a professional panel.

The minister also acknowledged government and private sponsors for their support, highlighting a shared commitment to advancing Sarawak’s creative industries.

The event aims to address broader efforts to integrate cultural values into community development, aligning with regional strategies to preserve intangible heritage through awards and recognitions.

Deputy Director General of the National Department for Culture and Arts (JKKN) Mohd Radzi Omar and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Datu Sherina Hussaini, were also present at the announcement.
