Sarawak Bamboo Day 2026 Showcases Local Products in Kuching

KUCHING, Oct 9: Sarawak Bamboo Day 2026 was officially launched at The Waterfront Hotel here today, showcasing the potential of bamboo products in supporting sustainable development, community creativity and local industries.

The event, organised by the Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (PUSAKA), was launched by Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Haji Len Talif Salleh.

Before the official opening ceremony, Len Talif visited the Bamboo Bazaar on the ground floor of the hotel to explore the various bamboo products and local offerings displayed by participating exhibitors.

The bazaar features a variety of products, including bamboo furniture, handicrafts, food and beverages, souvenirs and ecotourism promotions. The exhibition highlights the many uses of bamboo and its potential to support local businesses and create economic opportunities for communities.

Among the local participants is the Residents’ Representative Council (KRT) Progresif Kampung Sinar Budi Lama in Batu Kawa, which is showcasing products from its Bamboo Garden project.

The project, located in the Batu Kawa area under the N14 Batu Kawah state constituency, reflects the community’s efforts to develop bamboo-based products through local participation and creativity.

The group’s exhibition features creative bamboo handicrafts, locally made products and unique items produced using bamboo. These products demonstrate how the community has turned its Bamboo Garden initiative into an opportunity to showcase villagers’ skills, ideas and hard work.

The participation of KRT Progresif Kampung Sinar Budi Lama also brings attention to the role of community projects in developing local products and encouraging residents to explore the commercial potential of natural resources.

Bamboo is widely used for furniture, handicrafts and various household products. Its versatility also provides opportunities for communities to develop small-scale businesses and promote locally made products to a wider market.

Through Sarawak Bamboo Day 2026, visitors can discover different bamboo-based products while learning more about their applications in daily life and local industries.

The event also provides a platform for local producers and community groups to introduce their products to the public, potentially helping them reach new customers and expand their market presence.

Members of the public are invited to visit the Bamboo Bazaar at The Plaza Merdeka from Oct 9 to 11 to explore the exhibitions and support participating local businesses and community initiatives.

Sarawak Bamboo Day 2026 highlights the importance of connecting local resources, community participation and business opportunities to support sustainable development in Sarawak.
