LUNDU – The Sarawak government reaffirmed its dedication to inclusive development by organising a “Customer Day Programme” in Kampung Biawak, Lundu, aimed at delivering essential government services and information directly to rural communities. The initiative, spearheaded by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), drew more than 800 attendees on Saturday.
Held at the Kampung Biawak Multipurpose Hall, the programme served as a one-stop platform for villagers to access services from various government departments while also allowing them to engage directly with officials.
UKAS Director Awang Putrayusrie bin Awang Redzuan, in his speech, highlighted the programme’s importance in bridging the information gap and ensuring that rural residents are not left behind in the state’s development agenda.
“Kampung Biawak, with 890 residents across 214 houses, reflects the communities we aim to reach. These programmes demonstrate our ongoing commitment to accessible and effective communication,” he stated.
Lundu District Officer Awang Yusup Awang Mostapha officiated the event on behalf of Opar Assemblyman Billy Sujang. He praised UKAS’s strategy of bringing government agencies closer to the people and stressed the importance of countering misinformation by channelling verified, official information to remote areas.
A total of 13 agencies participated, including the Sarawak Agriculture Department, Sarawak State Health Department, Royal Malaysian Police, National Registration Department, SOCSO, EPF, i-CATS, and more.
The event also featured side activities such as children’s colouring competitions, interactive quizzes, and community dialogue sessions, allowing residents to express their concerns and provide feedback directly to relevant authorities.
Awang Putrayusrie encouraged continued community participation in such initiatives, affirming UKAS’s mission to ensure every layer of society, including those in rural areas, feels the impact of Sarawak’s development policies.
This outreach effort is part of a broader UKAS initiative aimed at strengthening the relationship between the government and the people, in alignment with Sarawak’s vision of equitable and inclusive growth.
