KUCHING – The Sarawak Civil Service (SCS) is set to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance administrative infrastructure in 2026, as part of its ongoing modernisation agenda aimed at fostering a high-performance work culture across the state’s public service.
Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said these measures are designed to act as catalysts for efficiency and professionalism within the civil service.
He expressed appreciation for the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, who has consistently supported initiatives that deliver significant benefits to the public sector.
Among the flagship projects expected to materialise in 2026 is the Sarawak Civil Service Leadership Institute Campus (LISCS), envisioned as a landmark hub for talent development and leadership training.
The institute will serve as a cornerstone for nurturing future leaders and embedding a culture of excellence within the civil service.
Datuk Amar highlighted that several Integrated Government Administrative Centre (IGAC) projects in Bintulu, Limbang, and Lawas are scheduled for completion in 2026.
These centres are intended to streamline administrative functions and provide more efficient services to the public.
He also noted that multiple district offices have already been completed and are operational, including those in Selangau, Song, Bukit Mabong, Subis, Matu, and Oya.
Additional offices in Lundu and Sungai Asap are expected to be completed this year, while construction continues on facilities in Pusa and Kabong.
The Secretary emphasised that the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) places strong focus on public service development in Sarawak.
Under this plan, 35 new projects have been approved, including 21 district offices and new IGACs in Samarahan, Miri, and Sibu.
These projects are expected to provide a more conducive working environment for civil servants and improve service delivery to the public.
In addition, 66 sites have been identified for the construction of government quarters across Sarawak. These quarters will house state officers and may also serve as temporary accommodation for federal officers, ensuring better support for staff mobility and welfare.
Datuk Amar stressed that these initiatives reflect Sarawak’s commitment to modernising its public service infrastructure, aligning with broader state development goals.
He added that the projects will not only enhance administrative efficiency but also strengthen the credibility and sustainability of the civil service.
The announcement was made during the Amanat Perdana Premier Sarawak 2026 event, themed ‘9 Tahun Gemilang’, at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching.
The event was attended by Premier Abang Johari’s daughter Dayang Norjihan, Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, as well as Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, state and federal ministers, deputy ministers, and senior officials.
