SEBUYAU, 26 July – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving access to clean and reliable water supply in Sebuyau, particularly for rural communities.
Sarawak Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, conducted a working visit to several villages in the Sebuyau District—Kampung Sago, Kampung Tebelu, and Kampung Ensika—to inspect progress on ongoing water infrastructure projects.
“This initiative reflects the state government’s determination to ensure all citizens, especially in rural areas, have access to quality basic amenities such as clean water,” said Julaihi.
He explained that several water supply projects are either underway or being planned through the Sarawak Ministry of Utilities and Telecommunications, with the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) as the implementing agency. These projects aim to upgrade the current water systems and meet growing demand.
Among the key projects is the 6.2-kilometre Water Pipeline Upgrade to Kampung Sago, currently in the construction phase, with a budget of RM1.7 million.
Also in the pipeline is the Rural Water Supply Project for Kampung Ensika, estimated to cost RM8.5 million. The project, currently in the design stage, is expected to be tendered in the first quarter of 2026. It includes the installation of new pipelines, the construction of booster pump stations, and high-level tanks.
In addition, the Pipeline Replacement Project from Tebelu High-Level Tank to Kampung Tebelu and Kampung Bajong, spanning 13.5 kilometres and costing approximately RM4.7 million, is now under construction.
Dato Sri Julaihi, who is also the State Assemblyman (ADUN) for Sebuyau, assured that all ongoing projects will be strictly monitored to ensure timely completion. The aim, he said, is to address water supply challenges effectively and provide long-term benefits to the residents.
