KUCHING – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cybersecurity across public services through the organisation of SCS Cybersecurity Week 2025, held from 1 to 4 December in Kuching.
The initiative, coordinated by the Sarawak Public Services Digitalisation Unit (SCSDU) in collaboration with Sarawak Information Systems Sdn. Bhd. (SAINS), aimed to enhance the digital resilience of civil servants, reinforce data protection practices, and ensure government agencies are equipped to respond to evolving cyber threats.
The highlight of the programme was a special session titled “A Session with YB Datuk Amar Sarawak State Secretary”, which drew more than 300 participants.
The event was officiated by Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah bin Haji Zaidel, Deputy State Secretary for Economic Planning and Development, who represented Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, the Sarawak State Secretary.
Participation extended across ministries, government departments, statutory bodies, local councils, and government-linked companies (GLCs), underscoring the message that cybersecurity is a collective responsibility rather than the sole domain of technical teams.
Over the four-day programme, civil servants were provided with a comprehensive training platform to improve their preparedness against digital risks.
Between 1 and 3 December, six online awareness sessions were conducted, covering topics such as current cyber threats, safe digital practices, and strategies for safeguarding government data.
In addition, the Cybersecurity Essentials for Government Professionals training was held physically from 2 to 3 December, targeting officers of grade N9 and above. The sessions emphasised leadership roles in cybersecurity governance, incident response readiness, and compliance with Sarawak’s security policies.
The closing ceremony featured the SCSDU Digital Excellence Awards 2025, recognising agencies and digital leaders for outstanding contributions to digital governance and service transformation. Awards presented included:
- 5-Star Rating Website (2024)
- Best Data Trustee Agency Working Group (DTAWG)
- SCS Digital First Agency Award
- 100% Digital Literacy Excellence Award
- Best Assistant Chief Digital Officer (ACDO)
- Best Chief Digital Officer (CDO)
These accolades highlighted the achievements of agencies and individuals who have demonstrated excellence in digital innovation and governance.
The event reinforced Sarawak’s ongoing efforts to build a culture of cyber resilience. By equipping civil servants with the necessary skills and awareness, the government aims to safeguard the state’s digital ecosystem while ensuring that cybersecurity remains a shared responsibility across all levels of public service.
