Latin DanceSport Training Camp 2025 Begins Tomorrow

Latin DanceSport Training Camp 2025 Begins Tomorrow

KUCHING, 4 Dec — Sarawak DanceSport is gearing up for another major milestone as the Sarawak DanceSport Association (SDA), in partnership with the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) and the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS), launches the SSC–SDA Latin Training Camp 2025. The intensive three-day programme will run from 5 to 7 December and is organised by the Russell, Randell & Cindy Dance Company (RRCDC).

This year’s camp brings together 23 promising DanceSport athletes — 20 from Sarawak and 3 from Sabah. Their participation marks not only growing interest in DanceSport across East Malaysia but also the warm cooperation shared between both states. The camp aims to sharpen skill, discipline, and performance quality, staying true to Sarawak’s long-standing commitment to raising its sporting standards.

The highlight of the camp is the presence of international DanceSport figure Mr. Nam Gi Yong, a respected Korean coach with an impressive competitive record. Together with his partner Shin Nara, Mr. Nam secured double gold medals at the Asian Indoor Games in 2013 and 2017, earning recognition throughout the WDSF Championship circuit for more than a decade. Today, he devotes his energy to coaching and show performances — and his experience is expected to give the athletes a strong push forward.

SDA President Chester Lim Hian Thoong said the training camp remains a core part of SDA’s athlete development programme. He explained that Sarawak has long invested in systematic grooming of its DanceSport athletes, and this workshop offers young dancers the right exposure to international-level coaching. According to him, the inclusion of Sabah athletes is a positive sign of regional unity, strengthening East Malaysia’s sports culture.

Chester also expressed gratitude to SSC and MSNS for their steady support, stressing that their endorsement helps build momentum for long-term success. For Sarawak, DanceSport is not just an art and sport — it is part of a broader vision to establish the state as Malaysia’s leading sports powerhouse.

The year 2025 has already shown encouraging progress. Sarawak dancers delivered strong performances at international competitions in France, Vietnam, Johor, Sabah, and within Sarawak itself, earning commendable results and podium finishes. Chester noted that the December training camp comes at the right moment, ensuring athletes remain competitive and prepared for the 2026 competition season.

SDA hopes the initiative will continue inspiring young dancers across the state. With committed stakeholders, experienced coaches, and determined athletes, Sarawak looks set to raise its DanceSport standards to new heights.
