MIRI – The Sarawak Day 722 Blood Donation Programme achieved a significant milestone with an overwhelming response from the public, recording 302 registrants, of which 227 successfully donated blood—far surpassing the original target of 150 donors.

What made the achievement even more remarkable was the participation of 29 first-time donors, reflecting a growing sense of civic responsibility and humanitarian commitment within the Miri community.

The campaign was a collaborative effort by ten local youth associations, supported by the Miri Red Crescent Society (PBSM) and the Miri Hospital Blood Bank. The initiative aimed not only to strengthen the blood supply but also to nurture a culture of care, compassion, and community involvement.

Prominent local leaders who lent their support included Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts of Sarawak, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, and Mayor of Miri cum Pujut State Assemblyman, Adam Yii, both of whom also stepped forward to donate blood.

In addition to blood donation, attendees benefitted from life-saving emergency demonstrations such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) techniques and the use of AED (automated external defibrillators).

The event also offered free health screenings, including blood pressure, blood sugar, bone density, and breast cancer screenings for women, promoting early detection and timely treatment—an important step in improving public health outcomes.
