Sarawak Deputy Premier Stresses Unity as Pillar of State Progress

LIMBANG – Sarawak’s Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, has reaffirmed that racial harmony remains the cornerstone of the state’s stability and progress.

Speaking at the Batu Danau Pre-Christmas Celebration in Limbang, he highlighted the strength of Sarawak’s multi-ethnic society, where respect and cooperation underpin unity across diverse communities.

He noted that every festival in Sarawak is celebrated in a spirit of inclusivity, with people of different faiths and backgrounds supporting one another.

The Christmas season, he said, carries universal values such as love, hope, generosity, justice, equality, and peace – principles shared across religions and cultures.

“In Sarawak, in our diversity we have different religious beliefs, we have different cultures and backgrounds, but we can live in a spirit of unity. We celebrate this diversity, therefore we must be grateful and celebrate the gifts given by God Almighty,” he remarked.

Awang Tengah stressed that unity is essential for maintaining peace and tranquillity, which in turn supports the state’s development agenda.

He acknowledged current global challenges, including geopolitical uncertainties and trade pressures, but assured that Sarawak remains resilient.

He revealed that the state government has prepared the 2026 Budget, amounting to nearly RM13 billion, reflecting its commitment to strengthening infrastructure, healthcare, education, and youth skills development.

The increased allocation also demonstrates concern for easing the cost of living, particularly for low- and middle-income groups, while ensuring welfare remains a priority.

The Deputy Premier urged citizens to remain vigilant against misinformation and propaganda spread through social media, warning that such content could undermine community harmony.

He emphasised that determination, passion, and confidence are key to advancing Sarawak’s progress and improving the well-being of its people.

Awang Tengah also highlighted ongoing improvements in infrastructure and education, aligning with the government’s vision of inclusive and balanced development.

These efforts, he said, ensure that all communities across Sarawak benefit equally from growth and modernisation.

The celebration in Limbang served not only as a festive occasion but also as a reminder of Sarawak’s enduring unity, which continues to be the foundation of its stability and prosperity.
