KUCHING – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the state’s development agenda as 2026 approaches, aligning efforts with the long-term vision of Sarawak Maju Makmur 2030.
Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin emphasised that with fewer than five years remaining to achieve the 2030 aspiration, collaboration between government agencies, the private sector and the community is crucial.
He urged all parties to intensify efforts to ensure projects are implemented efficiently and deliver broad benefits across the state.
“We need to strengthen cooperation between the government, private sector and the people, improve the efficiency of project implementation, and ensure that no community is left behind in the flow of development,” he said. He added that unity and collective commitment are essential to realising the state’s long-term goals.
Lee also highlighted the importance of maintaining social cohesion, tolerance and harmony, noting that political and social stability form the foundation for economic progress and community well-being.
Looking ahead to 2026, the Transport Ministry will prioritise the creation of a safer, modern and inclusive transport system. This will encompass land, air, river and maritime sectors, ensuring mobility for both urban and rural populations.
Among the key projects are the Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) system in Kuching, preparations for the launch of AirBorneo, enhancements to road safety measures, and improvements to logistics facilities and public transport services. These initiatives are expected to boost connectivity and support socio-economic growth across Sarawak.
The ministry also plans to strengthen river and maritime transport, ensuring accessibility and safety for coastal and inland communities.
Such improvements are intended to bridge gaps between rural and urban areas, fostering balanced development.
Lee called on Sarawakians to enter the New Year with renewed determination, stressing that collective effort is vital to building a prosperous and sustainable future. He extended his wishes for a Happy New Year 2026, expressing hope that the year will bring continued prosperity and blessings to the people of Sarawak.
The development agenda reflects Sarawak’s broader ambition to achieve inclusive growth under the Sarawak Maju Makmur 2030 framework.
Analysts note that infrastructure and transport projects will play a pivotal role in driving economic diversification, enhancing trade, and improving quality of life across the state.
With major projects underway and a clear focus on long-term goals, Sarawak’s leadership is positioning the state to meet its aspirations for prosperity and sustainability by 2030.
