KUCHING – The Sarawak Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening education by implementing infrastructure upgrades and facility improvements at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Song Kheng Hai, which marked its 60th anniversary this year.
Principal Sylvester Tan Chiang Wei highlighted that the school has undergone significant improvements, creating a cleaner and more organised environment while continuously upgrading teaching facilities. He noted that the quality of education has steadily improved, with students excelling in academics, scientific innovation, sports and cultural activities.
“Students have achieved commendable results in academic performance, scientific and technological innovation, sports competitions, and cultural activities. Many students have distinguished themselves in various competitions, winning honours for the school and adding lustre to the school,” he said during the Chinese New Year 2026 celebration held at SK Song Kheng Hai on Wednesday.
The principal emphasised that these achievements reflect the school’s dedication to nurturing well-rounded students who contribute positively to the community.
Meanwhile, Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of Kuching South City Council (MBKS), expressed appreciation for the state government’s commitment to education, particularly through subsidies and funding support. He pointed out that SK Song Kheng Hai operates as a dual-stream school, offering both Malay and Chinese language classes.
“On this campus, children from different language backgrounds learn and grow together; students of different ethnicities and cultures meet, get to know each other, and respect one another in the same space,” he said.
The mayor stressed that the school’s dual-stream approach reflects Sarawak’s broader commitment to inclusivity and cultural diversity, ensuring that students from different backgrounds can thrive together.
The anniversary celebration also served as a reminder of the school’s long-standing role in shaping generations of students in Kuching. With continued government support, SK Song Kheng Hai is expected to further strengthen its position as a centre of excellence in education while fostering unity among its diverse student body.
The combination of infrastructure upgrades, educational subsidies and cultural inclusivity is seen as a model for other schools in Sarawak, reinforcing the state’s vision of building a strong and harmonious education system.
