KUCHING – Sarawak is set to broaden its year-round programme of cultural and creative events, with a stronger emphasis on music concerts designed to appeal to younger audiences and diverse community groups.
Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, confirmed that the state government remains committed to sustaining a continuous calendar of activities to drive growth in both tourism and the creative sector.
Speaking during the Konsert Fenomena Samurai at Stadium Perpaduan Petra Jaya, he explained that Sarawak is now entering the final phase of its annual schedule, which has already featured food festivals, cultural showcases and live performances. He noted that music will continue to play a central role in future programming.
“For music, we will organise events in various forms. There will be rock concerts, which are popular among young people, as well as ballads and other types of musical events,” he said.
The minister stressed that inclusivity remains a guiding principle, with events tailored to different age groups and interests.
He added that this approach not only entertains but also strengthens the state’s creative ecosystem, providing opportunities for local talent while attracting visitors.
Looking ahead, preparations are already underway for the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF), one of Sarawak’s most recognised cultural events. Abdul Karim said the festival will continue to be a flagship attraction, bringing together international performers alongside local artistes.
“For next year, we can look forward to RWMF. We will bring great singers and performers to the festival,” he remarked.
The minister highlighted that the consistent organisation of both large-scale and niche events reflects Sarawak’s long-term vision of positioning itself as a vibrant destination for cultural tourism.
By offering a mix of traditional and contemporary programmes, the state aims to appeal to regional and international audiences while nurturing its creative industries.
Observers note that Sarawak’s strategy aligns with broader efforts across Malaysia to diversify tourism offerings and strengthen creative economies.
With music concerts ranging from rock to ballads, alongside cultural festivals and food-based events, the state is building a dynamic calendar that engages youth while celebrating heritage.
As Sarawak continues to expand its creative footprint, the combination of inclusivity, international collaboration and sustained programming is expected to reinforce its reputation as a hub for cultural tourism and live entertainment in Southeast Asia.
