SARAWAK – A statewide lecture programme addressing the threat of faith and misconception was successfully held on 11 April 2026, organised simultaneously across major mosques and selected suraus.
The initiative, known as the 2026 Lecture on Dealing with the Threat of Faith and Misconception (Series I), took place after Maghrib prayers and continued until Isha.
It featured a line-up of asatizah and officers from the Divisional Islamic Religious Office (PAIB), who delivered talks on key issues affecting the Muslim community.
Speakers highlighted several important aspects, including the definition of Ahli Sunnah wal Jamaah, the characteristics of misconceptions, and a list of deviant teachings identified in Malaysia, particularly in Sarawak.
They also emphasised the role of the community in reporting suspected activities that may undermine religious integrity.
The simultaneous organisation of the programme across multiple venues was seen as a successful strategy, attracting large congregations and increasing awareness of the dangers posed by faith-related misconceptions.
The turnout reflected strong community interest in safeguarding religious values and strengthening collective understanding.
Officials noted that the programme achieved its intended goals, particularly in raising awareness and encouraging vigilance among worshippers.
The lectures also reinforced the importance of unity and cooperation in protecting the community from harmful influences.
The Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) expressed hope that the momentum generated by this initiative would continue, with future programmes further enhancing awareness and resilience against threats to faith.
By combining religious education with community engagement, the lecture series demonstrated the importance of proactive measures in addressing challenges to faith.
It also underscored the role of mosques and suraus as centres of learning and guardians of spiritual well-being.
