The Governor Briefed on Forthcoming Sarawak Fatwa Seminar 2025

KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, was presented with final preparations for an upcoming religious conference during a courtesy call at the Astana Negeri Sarawak. The visiting delegation represented the Main Committee of the Sarawak Fatwa Seminar 1447H / 2025M.

Headed by the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department, Datuk Dr. Abdul Rahman Junaidi, the group included prominent figures such as the President of the Sarawak Islamic Council, Datuk Misnu Taha, and the Mufti of Sarawak, Sahibus Samahah Datu Kipli Yassin. Senior officers from the Sarawak Mufti Department were also in attendance.

The session functioned as an official briefing ahead of the seminar, which is scheduled for Thursday, 16 October 2025. The event will be held at the Sarawak Islamic Complex Hall in Sibu.

Carrying the theme “Authoritative Fatwa for a Sustainable Ummah,” the gathering will be inaugurated by the Governor himself.

It represents the concluding event in a succession of divisional-level Fatwa Seminars orchestrated by the Sarawak Mufti Department. These seminars form part of the 70th-anniversary celebrations of the Sarawak Islamic Council.

A primary objective of the programme is to deepen public comprehension of fatwas as reliable religious edicts. It is also designed to foster the exchange of knowledge among scholars, academics, and the broader community.

The seminar’s agenda will feature academic paper presentations, intellectual discussions, and a dedicated exhibition. This initiative is anticipated to reinforce the Mufti institution’s position as a cornerstone of legal and religious authority within the state.
