SELANGAU: The Sarawak Government remains fully committed to ensuring that all Projek Rakyat are implemented smoothly and completed on schedule, with no projects currently classified as “sick”, according to Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said this during a press conference following a working visit to two key project sites in Selangau on Tuesday. Uggah highlighted the role of continuous monitoring by the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR) and close collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development Sarawak (MIPD) as vital in maintaining project timelines.
“JKR continuously monitors Projek Rakyat announced by the Sarawak Premier to ensure they stay on track and that we maintain zero sick projects,” he stated.
One of the key projects inspected was the construction of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Selangau, which is currently progressing ahead of schedule. The project began in July 2024 and has achieved 19.41 per cent physical progress, approximately 4.34 per cent ahead of its planned timeline.
Originally targeted for completion in June 2027, the project is now expected to be completed by December 2026, thanks to favourable site conditions—no peat soil or hilly terrain.
The SMK Selangau development spans 22.2 acres at Mile 51½ along Jalan Sibu-Selangau, and includes 18 classrooms, a dormitory, teachers’ quarters, and other key facilities.
In addition to the school project, Uggah also visited the site for a new RM3 million access road connecting Pan Borneo Highway to Selangau town. This road is expected to significantly enhance local connectivity and mobility.
“Implementing agencies such as JKR Sarawak will ensure all development projects are carried out efficiently and for the benefit of the people,” Uggah added.
The site visit also included MIPD Permanent Secretary Datu Chiew Chee Yau, JKR Sarawak Director Dr. Cassidy Morris, and Selangau District Officer Yalin Asan.
