Sarawak Government Secretary Reviews Subis District Office Operations

SUBIS – The Sarawak Government Secretary, Datuk Amar Mohammad Abu Bakar Marzuki, paid a working visit to the Subis District Office on Monday to review administrative operations and engage directly with staff on their needs and challenges.

The visit highlighted the state government’s commitment to ensuring that district-level public services remain efficient, well-organised and responsive to current demands.

The programme began with a site inspection for the proposed construction of staff quarters adjacent to the District Office building. This was followed by a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, reflecting the administration’s emphasis on creating a greener and more sustainable workplace environment.

Also, present were Deputy Minister of Women and Child Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Miri Division Resident Galong Luang, Subis District Officer Norlila Ulis and staff of the Subis District Office.

Datuk Amar later toured the office building before participating in a dialogue session with staff. The session opened with a presentation by the District Officer, who outlined issues related to staff welfare, facilities and support systems needed to enhance service delivery.

A symbolic handover of the Subis District Office building by the Public Works Department (JKR) was also held, signifying that the new facility is ready to be fully utilised for administrative purposes.

Key matters discussed included the importance of providing a conducive working environment, addressing staff accommodation shortages through the construction of new quarters, and promoting career development opportunities within the public sector.

Datuk Amar stressed the need for continuous improvement, advocating the principles of “Rethink, Revisit and Recharge” as a foundation for strengthening organisational effectiveness. He also emphasised the importance of teamwork, encouraging staff to avoid working in silos and to focus on health, skills enhancement and career progression.

Attention was also given to the implementation of Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) and Small Rural Projects (MRP), which are expected to be carried out comprehensively for the benefit of local communities.

Staff who have served more than five years in one station were encouraged to consider transfers to gain broader exposure and new experiences.

The visit is expected to further strengthen district governance and improve staff welfare, in line with Sarawak’s vision of a progressive, people-centred public service.
