MECCA – Following a morning meeting with Sarawak pilgrims at Hotel Kiswah, the Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, visited the Abraj Al Bait Mall at approximately 11.00 am local time on Sunday.
The Abraj Al Bait Mall, also widely known as The Clock Tower Shopping Mall, is one of the largest retail complexes in Mecca and sits adjacent to the Grand Mosque.
It is a popular destination for pilgrims seeking essential supplies and personal items during their stay in the Holy City.
Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan were accompanied by Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts, YB Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, who attended with his wife, Datin Sri Hajah Zuraini binti Abdul Jabbar.
The entourage joined the governor and Toh Puan in exploring the shopping centre, which offers a wide range of goods from clothing and household items to food and religious products.
The purpose of the visit was to obtain essential equipment and necessities for use during their time in Mecca.
Such preparations are considered important for pilgrims, ensuring they are well-equipped for the demanding rituals of the Hajj.
The atmosphere at the mall was bustling, with pilgrims from across the world making final arrangements ahead of the peak of the pilgrimage season.
Many visitors were seen purchasing items ranging from prayer mats and ihram garments to food supplies, reflecting the diverse needs of those preparing for the sacred rites.
Abraj Al Bait Mall, part of the iconic Clock Tower complex, is not only a shopping destination but also a landmark symbolising modern facilities integrated into the historic setting of Mecca.
Its proximity to the Grand Mosque makes it a convenient location for pilgrims who wish to balance spiritual obligations with practical needs.
The governor’s presence at the mall highlighted the shared experiences of Sarawak pilgrims, reinforcing the bond between leadership and community even in a foreign land.
By joining fellow Sarawakians in their preparations, Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan demonstrated solidarity and support for the state’s delegation during this spiritual journey.
As the Hajj season approaches its peak, the visit served as a reminder of the importance of readiness, discipline, and unity among pilgrims.
The governor’s engagement with everyday activities such as shopping for essentials reflects the practical realities of pilgrimage, where faith and preparation go hand in hand.
