Sarawak Governor Arrives in Sibu for Aidilfitri Celebration

SIBU – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, arrived safely at Sibu Airport at 6.00 pm on 27 March after departing from Miri.

The Governor was accompanied by his daughter Sharifah Nong-Jasima, her husband Mohamad Hakeem, and their child Tasneem.

Also travelling with the entourage was Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak and Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, who served as the ministerial escort, along with his wife Datin Sri Hajjah Zuraini binti Abdul Jaabar.

Upon arrival, the Governor and his delegation were warmly received by Abang Haji Mohamad Porkan bin Abang Haji Budiman, Sibu Resident, together with his wife.

The welcoming party also included ACP Azari bin Miskon, Sibu District Police Chief, SUPT Balamurugan Govinda, Sibu Deputy District Police Chief, and several community leaders from the district.

The arrival ceremony included prayers of well-being led by Islamic affairs officer Azhar bin Hipni, marking the beginning of the Governor’s Aidilfitri programme in Sibu.

The Governor’s visit to Sibu forms part of his wider Aidilfitri pilgrimage across Sarawak, which involves meeting relatives, acquaintances, and community leaders. These engagements are intended to strengthen ties of kinship and reinforce unity during the festive season.

In his remarks, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and prayed that the visit would be facilitated and blessed.

He emphasised that Aidilfitri is a time to nurture values of repentance, unity, and love, which should continue to guide daily life.

The Governor’s presence in Sibu highlights the importance of maintaining close connections between state leaders and communities.

Such visits are seen as vital in fostering inclusivity and harmony across Sarawak’s diverse society, particularly during festive occasions that bring people together.

The Aidilfitri programme in Sibu is expected to include visits to several homes of acquaintances and community figures, further reinforcing the cultural significance of togetherness and shared joy during the celebration.
