SIBU – The Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, began their Hari Raya Aidilfitri programme in Sibu on 27 March with a visit to the residence of Puan Patricia Mowe and her family at Lorong Lilin 1, Ulu Sungai Merah.
Puan Patricia Mowe is a cousin of the late Dato’ Sri Feona Sim, the Governor’s late wife, making the visit a particularly meaningful occasion for the family. The gathering was held in a warm and familial atmosphere, reflecting the spirit of Aidilfitri as a time for kinship and remembrance.
The Governor was accompanied by his daughter Sharifah Nong-Jasima, her husband Mohamad Hakeem, and their child Tasneem. Also present was Dato Sri Haji Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak and Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, who served as the ministerial escort, together with his wife Datin Sri Hajjah Zuraini binti Abdul Jaabar.
The visit highlighted the tradition of Aidilfitri gatherings, which continue to flourish among Sarawak’s multi-racial communities. Such practices are seen as vital in strengthening family ties and instilling the value of togetherness, particularly during festive seasons.
The presence of the Governor and his wife symbolised the state leadership’s concern for community harmony and appreciation of family relationships. Over the years, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi has consistently attended community programmes and festivals in Sibu, reflecting his commitment to unity and inclusivity across the state.
In his remarks, the Governor expressed hope that the Syawal visits would continue to strengthen family bonds and foster the spirit of unity, which he described as the foundation of Sarawak’s harmony. He emphasised that Aidilfitri is not only a time of celebration but also a platform for nurturing values of love, respect, and solidarity.
The visit to Puan Patricia Mowe’s residence marked the beginning of a series of engagements in Sibu, underscoring the cultural and social significance of Aidilfitri in bringing families and communities together.
