Sarawak Governor Attends Bersungkei Ceremony at Astana Surau

KUCHING – His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, attended the Bersungkei Ceremony with the leadership of the Malaysian Tabligh Foundation at the Sarawak Astana Surau on 2 March.

The event, held at the Dewan Santapan, brought together state leaders, religious representatives, and community members in celebration of Ramadan. Among those present were YB Datuk Haji Mohammad Razi bin Sitam, Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Wellbeing of Sarawak, accompanied by his wife, Datin Hajah Hafsah binti Saleh.

Also in attendance were Datuk Awang Bujang bin Awang Antek with his wife, Datin Fatmahwati binti Haji Alek; Puan Hajah Rakayah binti Hamdan, the General Manager of SEDC; and representatives from the Malaysian Tabligh Foundation.

Members of the Syura Jamaah, including Maulana Abdul Hamid Chin and Haji Abdullah Chong, joined the congregation from the Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, alongside approximately 200 invited guests.

The ceremony began with a simple iftar, symbolising gratitude for the blessings of Ramadan. Attendees then performed the Maghrib prayer in congregation before sharing dinner in a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

The programme continued with Isyak and Tarawih prayers, led by Ustaz Mohammad Safwan bin Mahli, further enriching the spiritual appreciation of the holy month.

Such gatherings are seen as vital in strengthening brotherhood and unity within the community. They also provide a platform to instil the spirit of togetherness and reinforce religious values during Ramadan.

In his remarks, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi prayed that all acts of worship carried out during the holy month would be accepted and blessed by Allah SWT. His presence at the ceremony highlighted the importance of leadership in fostering community spirit and encouraging collective devotion.

The Bersungkei Ceremony at Astana Surau reflects Sarawak’s commitment to nurturing religious harmony and cultural inclusivity, ensuring that Ramadan is celebrated not only as a spiritual observance but also as a unifying force for the people.
