Sarawak Governor Gifts Signed Books to Malaysian Envoy in Singapore

SINGAPORESarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar concluded his official visit to Singapore on Sunday with a symbolic gesture of appreciation. Before departing for Kuching from Seletar Airport, he presented four of his published works to Malaysian High Commissioner to Singapore, YBhg. Dato’ Indera Dr Afzar Mohammad Mustafar.

The books – A Policeman, Evolusi Parlimeni, Silence, and Teriso’s Little Star – were each personally signed by the Governor as keepsakes for the High Commissioner.

The titles reflect different stages of his career, offering insights into law, governance, and national development.

The brief handover ceremony was attended by Dato’ Indera Dr Afzar and his wife, Datin Indera Che Norhayati Soib, who accompanied the Governor and Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi at the airport.

The exchange highlighted the personal rapport between Sarawak’s leadership and Malaysia’s diplomatic mission in Singapore.

In his remarks, Tun Wan Junaidi expressed hope that the books would serve as useful references for the High Commissioner, providing perspectives on Malaysia’s parliamentary evolution, legal frameworks, and broader nation-building efforts.

He noted that the works encapsulate his professional journey and experiences across public service and politics.

The Governor also conveyed his gratitude to the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore for its support during his visit.

He emphasised the role of the mission in facilitating smooth official engagements and strengthening bilateral ties between Sarawak and the Republic.

Observers noted that the gesture of gifting signed books underscored the importance of cultural and intellectual exchange in diplomacy.

Such acts, though symbolic, often reinforce mutual respect and understanding between leaders and institutions.

The Governor’s visit to Singapore included meetings with senior officials and cultural engagements, reflecting Sarawak’s commitment to deepening cooperation in education, innovation, and community ties.

The book presentation at Seletar Airport provided a fitting conclusion, combining diplomacy with a personal touch that highlighted the Governor’s dedication to fostering goodwill.

As the delegation departed for Kuching, the signed volumes were seen not only as mementos but also as contributions to the ongoing dialogue between Sarawak and Singapore.

The exchange reinforced the broader narrative of collaboration, where official duties are complemented by gestures of respect and shared knowledge.
