KUCHING – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, spent his Sunday morning in Satok, enjoying breakfast with his daughter Sharifah Fariah and granddaughter Puteri Athena Maimunah.
The family gathering took place at a popular café, where the governor mingled with locals in a relaxed atmosphere.
The governor was seen savouring traditional dishes, including coffee and Javanese noodles, while chatting with acquaintances and fellow customers.
His presence drew attention from the public, many of whom took the opportunity to greet him and capture photographs as keepsakes.
This casual outing reflects a broader pattern of community engagement by Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi. In recent months, he has been spotted at several local eateries along Jalan Satok, including Sepinang Sari Café, where he and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, enjoyed their regular favourites such as beef and tendon kolok mee.
Such visits have become part of his routine, reinforcing his reputation as a leader who values closeness with the people.
Beyond Satok, the governor has also made appearances at markets across Sarawak, including Bintangor and Bintulu, where he interacted with traders and residents. These walkabouts have been well received, offering communities a chance to meet the state’s highest leader in informal settings.
His approachability is often described as a hallmark of his leadership. Since assuming office in January 2024, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi has emphasised the importance of maintaining a “human touch” in governance.
His background in public service, including years in the police force during the communist insurgency, has shaped his outlook on leadership and community relations.
Speaking about his weekend routine, the governor noted that such activities provide space to connect with the people and strengthen ties between state leadership and the community.
“This kind of relaxing activity is part of the weekend routine that gives space to approach the people and strengthen the relationship between the state leadership and the local community,” he said.
For many residents, his presence in everyday settings underscores the accessibility of Sarawak’s leadership.
It also highlights the cultural significance of local cafés and markets, which continue to serve as gathering points for both ordinary citizens and distinguished guests.
As Sarawak moves forward with its development agenda, these moments of informal interaction serve as reminders of the governor’s commitment to fostering unity and maintaining strong bonds with the rakyat.
