KUALA LUMPUR – The Governor of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, marked the weekend in the capital by sharing a family meal to break fast at a well-known Japanese restaurant.
The gathering brought together several family members, including their daughter Sharifah Nong-Jasima, Mr Muhammad Nur Hakeem Yusop, Sharifah Nuril Barieyah and her husband Mr David James Foley, as well as Mr Tasneem and granddaughter Feona Elsie Norjannah Foley.
The occasion also saw the presence of Mr Winston and his wife, Mrs Se-Tho, alongside Mr Denis and his wife, Mrs Marie Foley, who are Mr David’s parents currently residing in Kuala Lumpur.
Following the meal, the Governor and his family visited the Publika complex, where they enjoyed ice cream at Baskin Robbins before returning home.
The relaxed outing reflected the importance of family togetherness during weekends, particularly in the context of fasting and shared meals.
The Governor emphasised the value of family bonds and community spirit, expressing his hope that others would also take the opportunity to spend quality time with loved ones.
“I pray that the whole community can enjoy the weekend atmosphere with family members with joy and well-being,” he said.
Family gatherings such as these are a reminder of the cultural and social significance of breaking fast, which is often seen as more than just a meal.
It is a moment of reflection, gratitude, and connection. In Malaysia, where diverse communities celebrate traditions in their own ways, such events highlight the shared values of unity and togetherness.
The Governor’s presence in Kuala Lumpur also underscores the close ties between Sarawak and the nation’s capital, where many Sarawakians live, work, and study.
His engagement with family in a public setting reflects the balance between official duties and personal commitments, reinforcing the importance of maintaining strong family connections despite busy schedules.
The visit to Publika, a popular lifestyle destination in Kuala Lumpur, added a modern touch to the family’s weekend activities.
Known for its vibrant dining and leisure options, the venue has become a favourite spot for both locals and visitors.
The choice of Baskin Robbins for dessert further illustrated the light-hearted and casual nature of the family’s outing.
As the Governor continues his responsibilities in Sarawak, moments like these serve as reminders of the human side of leadership, where family and community remain central to personal and public life.
