KUCHING – The Head of State of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, took part in a brisk evening walk at Kasuma Resort, Petra Jaya, on 21 April.
The activity, which lasted for more than half an hour, was carried out in mild weather conditions that made the exercise both pleasant and refreshing.
They were joined by Sharifah Fariah’s daughter, adding a family element to the occasion. The walk was described as a simple yet effective way of maintaining physical fitness and encouraging a balanced lifestyle.
Such activities are increasingly recognised as vital for promoting health and wellbeing, especially among community leaders who often set an example for the public.
Brisk walking is widely acknowledged by health experts as one of the most accessible forms of exercise. It helps improve cardiovascular health, strengthens muscles, and reduces stress.
In Malaysia, public health campaigns have consistently encouraged citizens to adopt regular physical activity as part of their daily routine, with walking being one of the most recommended options due to its low cost and ease of participation.
Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan have long emphasised the importance of healthy living. Their decision to engage in outdoor exercise reflects broader efforts across Sarawak to promote wellness and encourage residents to take proactive steps in caring for their health.
The couple expressed their hope that the community will continue to embrace healthy practices, noting that good health is essential for both personal wellbeing and collective progress.
The evening walk also highlighted the growing trend of leaders participating in lifestyle activities that resonate with the public.
By choosing a simple form of exercise, the Sarawak State Chief and his wife underscored the message that maintaining health does not require elaborate routines but can be achieved through consistent, everyday habits.
Observers noted that such gestures carry symbolic weight, reinforcing the idea that wellness is a shared responsibility.
In Sarawak, where community spirit and civic pride are highly valued, initiatives that encourage healthier living are often welcomed as part of broader development goals.
As the state continues to focus on public health awareness, the example set by its leaders serves as a reminder that even modest activities can contribute to long-term wellbeing.
The evening walk at Kasuma Resort was not only a personal exercise but also a public statement encouraging citizens to integrate healthy practices into their daily lives.
