KUCHING – His Excellency the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, welcomed relatives for a breakfast gathering at his official residence in Petra Jaya on 3 January.
The occasion was attended by his daughters Sharifah Fariah, accompanied by her husband Muhammad Syukri Mohamad Draim, Sharifah Nong-Jasima with her husband Muhammad Nur Hakeem Yusop, and Sharifah Nuril Barieyah with her husband David James Foley.
Also, present were grandchildren Puteri Athena Maimunah and Feona Elsie Norjannah Foley, adding to the family warmth of the morning.
Among the relatives who joined the gathering were Wan Zawawi bin Tku Akil, Wan Ismail bin Tku Mahlar, Wan Abdul Rahman bin Wan Abu Bakar, Syed Sarkawi bin Syed Sapawi, Tuan Haji Wan Ali bin Wan Abdul Hamid and his wife Puan Hajah Sharifah Ramiah binti Hj Wan Mohbar, Puan Hajah Sharifah Hamsiah binti Hj Wan Mohbar, as well as Wan Rafhis bin Wan Japar and his wife Puan Mirawati binti Sahib.
The breakfast provided a platform for family members to reconnect, exchange news and share updates in a relaxed and cordial atmosphere.
Conversations also touched on Sarawak’s historical roots, including the Lingga-Banting Kingdom, which later divided into districts such as Triso, Sebuyau, Simunjan and Pendam. Discussions further explored family divisions in the Saribas area, including Spaoh and Betong.
Tun Pehin Sri expressed his gratitude for the presence of relatives, noting that the gathering offered added value by deepening understanding of Sarawak’s history beyond western sources.
He prayed for blessings, prosperity and enduring love among family members, emphasising the importance of maintaining strong ties and harmony.
The event highlighted the Governor’s commitment to family values and cultural heritage, reinforcing the significance of unity and shared history in Sarawak’s identity.
