Sarawak Governor Joins Friday Prayers at State Mosque

KUCHING – His Excellency the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, attended Friday prayers at the Sarawak State Mosque on 1 May, reinforcing his close ties with the local Muslim community.

The Governor’s arrival was warmly received by Yang Berbahagia Datu Haji Abdul Hadi bin Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir, Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust (LAKMNS).

He was joined by Tuan Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud, Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department, along with officers on duty.

Also present at the mosque was YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar, Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly, who joined the congregation for the weekly prayers.

The prayers were led by Ustaz Syed Abdul Aziz bin Haji Wan Yusof, Islamic Affairs Officer of the Sarawak Islamic Council.

He also delivered the Friday sermon entitled “Zakat Implemented, Hak Asnaf Terbela”, which emphasised the importance of zakat in safeguarding the rights of asnaf groups and supporting social welfare.

Following the prayers, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi greeted worshippers and engaged with members of the congregation.

He also distributed envelopes of donations to children present, a gesture that highlighted his commitment to fostering goodwill and strengthening community bonds.

By attending the prayers and participating in community activities, His Excellency underscored the role of leadership in encouraging faith-based values and collective harmony.
