KUCHING – The Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, attended the Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1447H/2026M celebration at the Sarawak State Astana on Sunday.
The festive occasion brought together family members, close relatives, and friends in a warm atmosphere at the Great Hall.
Among those present were the Governor’s children, Sharifah Fariah with her husband Muhammad Syukri Mohamad Draim, Sharifah Nong Jasima with her husband Muhammad Nur Hakeem Yusop, and Sharifah Nuril Barieyah with her husband David James Foley. Their children, Princess Athena Maimunah and Feona Elsie Norjannah Foley, also joined the gathering.
Several distinguished guests attended the ceremony, including Datuk Wan Ali Tuanku Yubi, Dato Dr Wan Ali Tuanku Madehi, Dato Rahman Lariwoo, Dato Dr Julian Wee, and Dato Ahmad Kassim, accompanied by their families.
The event was further enriched by the presence of extended relatives and family friends from across Sarawak, representing districts such as Semerak, Sebuyau, Matang Batu 10, Kampung Lintang, Sejingkat, Kota Samarahan, and Spaoh.
The Governor’s youngest aunt, Puan Sharifah Rashidah Tuanku Abdul Rahman, attended with her husband Tuan Haji Zakaria and their family. Also present was Puan Patricia Mowe, cousin of the Governor’s late first wife, Dato Sri Feona Sim.
The extended family of Encik Mohamad Draim bin Abdul Latip and Puan Norsiah binti Ras, parents of Muhammad Syukri, and Puan Jasnah Obeng, mother of Hakeem, were among those who joined the celebration.
Friends from the Police Retirement Association also took part in the gathering, reflecting the broad community ties of the Governor’s household.
The Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration at the Astana highlighted the importance of family unity and community spirit. Guests shared festive meals and exchanged greetings, reinforcing the cultural significance of Aidilfitri as a time of reconciliation and togetherness.
In his remarks, Tun Pehin Sri Wan Junaidi expressed gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate with loved ones. He emphasised that such gatherings not only strengthen family bonds but also nurture friendships across communities.
“We are thankful to be able to come together, socialise with family members, and celebrate this meaningful day while reinforcing the bonds of friendship among people,” the Governor said.
The event at the Astana reflected Sarawak’s tradition of inclusivity, where family, friends, and community leaders unite to mark one of the most significant celebrations in the Islamic calendar. The ceremony underscored the Governor’s commitment to fostering harmony and togetherness across Sarawak’s diverse society.
