KUCHING – The Sarawak State Legislative Assembly hosted its 2026 Aidilfitri Reception Ceremony at the DUN Auditorium on 8 April, bringing together leaders, officials, and community representatives in a festive spirit of unity.
The event was graced by His Excellency Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, Governor of Sarawak, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi.
Their arrival was warmly received by Speaker of the Sarawak DUN, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar, alongside his wife Dato Hajah Fatimah binti Mohd Iskandar, Deputy Speaker Dato Haji Idris bin Buang with his wife Datin Nurhidayah, and senior assembly staff.
The ceremony drew a wide attendance from state leaders, including Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Haji Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who represented the Premier of Sarawak, accompanied by his wife Dato Hajah Dayang Morliah binti Datuk Awang Daud.
Also present was Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Prof. Dr. Sim Kui Hian, Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, with his wife Dato Enn Ong Siok Ean, alongside ministers, deputy ministers, and assembly members.
The programme included a group photograph with invited guests, the cutting of the Aidilfitri cake, and the presentation of a donation cheque to the Sarawak Orphanage Welfare Board (PERYATIM).
The contribution was handed over by Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia, representing the Assembly’s Sports and Recreation Committee.
In his address, the Speaker expressed gratitude for the Governor and his wife’s presence, noting their role in enhancing the warmth of the occasion.
He highlighted the Governor’s literary works, including Triso’s Little Star, which reflect his resilience and moral courage both in public life and in the legal field.
The Speaker also commended the Governor for elevating the institution of Astana Sarawak as a respected symbol of state sovereignty, serving as a unifying figure for Sarawak’s diverse communities.
He urged assembly members to emulate this dedication by continuing to provide tireless service at both state and parliamentary levels.
The Aidilfitri reception served as a platform to strengthen ties between elected representatives, civil servants, and the wider community.
The Governor and his wife conveyed their appreciation to the Assembly for organising the event, emphasising its role in fostering unity and harmony while celebrating the festive season at the state level.
The gathering reflected the essence of Aidilfitri, promoting togetherness and reinforcing the bonds between institutions and the people of Sarawak.
