KUCHING, March 14 – In a significant event marking the holy month of Ramadan, His Excellency the Sarawak State Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, joined the Friday prayers at the Sarawak State Mosque, Masjid Jamek. The prayers were led by Sahibul Fadilah Dato’ Ustaz Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Haji Ahmad Fauzi, the Grand Imam of Sarawak.
The congregation included prominent figures such as YB Tan Sri Mohamad Asfia bin Awang Nassar, Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly; YB Dato’ Sri Haji Julaihi bin Haji Narawi, Sarawak Minister of Utilities and Communications; YAA Datuk Haji Awang Suhaili bin Ledi, Chief Syariah Judge; and other high-ranking officials.
During his address, Tun Pehin Sri emphasized the importance of Ramadan as a time for spiritual reflection and self-improvement. He urged Muslims in Sarawak to increase their recitation of the Quran, perform voluntary prayers, give charity, and engage in good deeds. He also highlighted the significance of Nuzul Al-Quran, reminding the community to make the Quran a guiding light in their daily lives.
“Ramadan is not just about fasting; it is a month to reconnect with the Quran. We must read, understand, and practice its teachings, as it is the ultimate guide for our lives,” said Tun Pehin Sri, referencing Surah Al-Baqarah verse 185.
He further called on the people of Sarawak to embody Islamic values of love, brotherhood, and unity. He expressed hope that Ramadan would serve as an opportunity for individuals to strengthen their relationship with Allah and improve themselves spiritually.
“May this blessed month bring us closer to Allah and transform us into more pious individuals,” he added.
The event concluded with a heartfelt prayer for blessings and acceptance of good deeds during Ramadan. — TYT Sarawak
