BINTULU: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, attended the Prayer Recitation Ceremony for the End of Year 1446H and Beginning of Year 1447H at Masjid Assyakirin on Thursday evening. The event marked the state-level Maal Hijrah 1447H/2025 celebrations, themed “Ummah Maju Makmur” (A Progressive and Prosperous Ummah).
Arriving at 6:15 PM, the couple was warmly welcomed by Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nasar, alongside Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU, and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Sarawak Islamic Council President Datuk Misnu Taha, Jepak Assemblyman Iskandar Turkee, and Tanjong Batu Assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of prayers for the end of 1446H, led by Sarawak Grand Imam Sahibul Fadilah Dato Mustapha Kamal Ahmad Fauzi. Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi joined local residents for the congregational Maghrib prayer, followed by prayers for the beginning of 1447H. The event also featured a recitation of Surah Yasin and Tahlil, dedicated to the late Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, wife of Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, also led by Dato Mustapha Kamal.
A Maal Hijrah tazkirah, titled “Hijrah Ummah Maju Makmur,” was delivered by Sarawak Mufti Sahibus Samahah Datu Kipli Yassin, emphasizing the significance of Hijrah as a symbol of unity, sacrifice, and progress for the Muslim community. The ceremony concluded with the congregational Isyak prayer and a communal dinner, after which Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi, Toh Puan Fauziah, and other dignitaries departed.
The event, part of a two-day Maal Hijrah celebration in Bintulu, underscores Sarawak’s commitment to fostering inclusive Islamic values and community well-being, aligning with the state’s vision for progress by 2030.
