KUCHING – His Excellency the Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, together with Her Excellency Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Hajjah Fauziah binti Mohd Sanusi, welcomed a courtesy visit from the Main Committee for the upcoming Maal Hijrah 1448H/2026M celebration at the state level.
The delegation, led by YB Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department and Project Coordinator for DBKU and Islamic Affairs, arrived at the Astana Negeri Sarawak at 11.00 am.
The visit served to extend an official invitation to the Governor and Toh Puan to attend the state-level celebration scheduled for 16 and 17 June 2026.
Among those present were Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council; Tuan Galong anak Luang, Resident of Miri Division; Al-Fadhil Ustaz Haji Abang Borhanuddin bin Abang Ahmad Masuine, Deputy Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department (JAIS); Ustazah Dr Safura binti Ahmad Sharkawi, Acting Head of the Syarie Counselling and Psychological Development Division, JAIS; Ustazah Hanisah binti Dato Haji Nahrawi, Head of the Our Brothers’ Development Division, JAIS; and Ustaz Helmi bin Dato Haji Nahrawi, Principal Assistant Director of JAIS Corporate Communications Unit.
The Miri Division has been selected as the host for this year’s Maal Hijrah celebration. The programme is expected to feature a range of meaningful activities, including the End of Year 1447H and Beginning of Year 1448H Prayer Ceremony, as well as the Maal Hijrah Celebration Assembly Ceremony.
These events aim to foster unity and strengthen the spiritual appreciation of the hijrah among Muslims in Sarawak.
During the meeting, Tun Pehin Sri expressed gratitude for the invitation and conveyed his hopes that the celebration would reinforce brotherhood and deepen the understanding of hijrah as a foundation for personal, societal and state transformation.
He emphasised the importance of such gatherings in promoting harmony and encouraging reflection on the values of resilience and renewal.
The courtesy visit highlighted the collaborative efforts of religious leaders, government representatives and community figures in ensuring that the Maal Hijrah celebration remains a significant annual event in Sarawak.
It also underscored the role of the Islamic Council and JAIS in coordinating activities that strengthen faith and community spirit across the state.
