Sarawak Governor Begins Two-Day Official Visit to Brunei for Royal Celebration

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN – Sarawak Governor, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, together with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, arrived safely in Brunei Darussalam on Monday afternoon for a two-day official visit.

The high-level visit, which takes place at the invitation of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, is held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 79th birthday celebration scheduled for 15 July.

The Sarawak Governor and his wife touched down at Brunei International Airport at 3:25 p.m., accompanied by Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and his wife, Dato Dayang Morliah Datuk Awang Daud.

Their arrival was marked by full ceremonial honours and a warm welcome from senior Bruneian dignitaries, including Minister of Religious Affairs Pehin Dato Awang Badaruddin Awang Othman, Brunei Police Commissioner Dato Seri Pahlawan Sulaiman Alidin, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces Major General Dato Paduka Seri Muhammad Haszaimi Bol Hassan, and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs Awang Muhammad Ibrahim.

A formal Guard of Honour led by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces was inspected by Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi upon his arrival before he and his delegation proceeded to the official accommodation.

This visit marks another step in reinforcing the long-standing and close diplomatic ties between Sarawak and Brunei Darussalam. It also underscores mutual respect and cultural exchange, particularly in light of the Sultan’s annual birthday celebrations, which traditionally feature international dignitaries and representatives of neighbouring regions.

The Governor’s participation symbolises Sarawak’s commitment to maintaining and deepening bilateral relations, especially in areas of trade, cultural exchange, and regional cooperation.
