Sarawak Governor Returns to Kuching After Four-Day Visit to Singapore

KUCHINGSarawak Governor Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi safely arrived back in Kuching on Sunday afternoon following a four-day official visit to Singapore.

The couple’s return flight from Seletar Airport landed at 4.00 pm, marking the conclusion of a programme that combined diplomacy, policy dialogue, and cultural exchange.

The departure from Singapore was accompanied by Dato’ Fenny Nuli, Director of the Regional Office of Malaysia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Sarawak, and Dato’ Sri Haji Syed Hamzah Syed Paie, Senior Private Secretary to the Governor.

Their presence underscored the importance of the visit, which was the Governor’s first official trip to Singapore since assuming office earlier this year.

During the stay, Tun Wan Junaidi engaged in a series of meetings with Singaporean officials and institutions. Discussions focused on policy cooperation, green economic development, and socio-economic strategies that could enhance Sarawak’s growth trajectory.

The Governor highlighted Sarawak’s commitment to renewable energy, sustainable development, and the digital economy, positioning the state as a forward-looking partner in regional collaboration.

He also emphasised the importance of governance reforms and innovation, noting that Singapore’s role as a strategic partner aligns with Sarawak’s ambitions to strengthen its international profile.

These exchanges were seen as opportunities to identify areas of mutual benefit, particularly in academic collaboration, knowledge transfer, and the exploration of new strategic ventures.

Throughout the visit, the Governor expressed appreciation for the hospitality extended by Singaporean authorities.

He noted that the warmth and support provided during official engagements reflected the strength of bilateral ties between Sarawak and Singapore.

Observers remarked that the visit carried symbolic weight, reinforcing Sarawak’s role in regional diplomacy while also advancing practical cooperation in areas such as education, technology, and sustainable development.

The Governor’s engagements were framed as part of a broader effort to ensure Sarawak remains a dynamic contributor to ASEAN’s evolving landscape.

The safe return to Kuching concluded a visit that not only strengthened diplomatic relations but also showcased Sarawak’s readiness to embrace innovation and sustainability in partnership with Singapore.

The outcomes are expected to pave the way for deeper collaboration benefiting communities in both regions.
