The evening began with iftar, followed by the Maghrib prayer in congregation. Guests then enjoyed dinner before performing the Isyak and Tarawih prayers, led by Dato Haji Mustapha Kamal bin Ahmad Fauzi, the Grand Imam of Sarawak.
A key highlight of the ceremony was the symbolic presentation of Aidilfitri donations by Tun Pehin Sri and Toh Puan to 40 recipients.
These represented a wider group of 378 beneficiaries, including primary school pupils, university students from Sarawak, children of Sarawak Foundation staff in Kuala Lumpur, and children of Rumah Sarawak employees.
In his remarks, Tun Pehin Sri expressed gratitude to the Sarawak Foundation for organising the event, which he described as an important platform for fostering unity, brotherhood, and a sense of belonging among Sarawakians living outside the state.
He also offered prayers for the students’ continued academic success, emphasising their role as future contributors to Sarawak’s development.
The Sungkei Anak Sarawak ceremony has become a meaningful tradition, strengthening ties between Sarawak’s leadership and its people while promoting welfare and inclusivity during Ramadan.
