Sarawak Halal Outreach Programme Boosts Certification Awareness

KUCHING – The Sarawak Halal Outreach Programme, themed “Halal Certification: Quality & Confidence”, concluded successfully after two days at the Borneo Culture Museum, bringing together entrepreneurs and halal certificate holders to deepen understanding of halal certification processes.

Held from 29 to 30 April 2026, the programme aimed to raise awareness among local businesses about the importance of halal certification, guide participants through application procedures, and strengthen compliance with halal standards.

Organisers emphasised that the initiative was particularly significant for bumiputera entrepreneurs, who are increasingly active in the halal industry.

The event was officiated by His Excellency Ustaz Abang Borhanuddin bin Abang Ahmad Masuine, Deputy Director at the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department.

During the ceremony, he presented the Malaysian Halal Verification Certificate to 10 bumiputera companies, recognising their commitment to meeting halal requirements and contributing to the growth of the sector.

On the first day, under the theme “Selangkah Ke Pensijilan Halal”, 151 bumiputera entrepreneurs attended sessions designed to provide detailed guidance on certification applications.

Participants were briefed on compliance standards and the role of halal certification in enhancing product competitiveness in domestic and international markets.

The second day, themed “Road to Whitelist Sarawak”, focused on existing certificate holders. A total of 72 participants joined discussions on maintaining continuous compliance and strengthening their position within the halal ecosystem.

The session provided opportunities for networking and knowledge-sharing between entrepreneurs and relevant agencies.

Organisers reported that participants gained practical insights into certification procedures, improved confidence in applying for halal recognition, and built stronger connections with industry stakeholders.
