KUCHING – The Head of State of Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, joined local worshippers for Friday prayers at the Darul Hana Patingan Mosque, Kampung No. 6, strengthening ties between leaders and the community.
His arrival at 12.15 pm was warmly received by mosque officials, including Prof Dr Asri Said, Chairman of the Mosque, and Alfadhil Ustaz Abang Borhanuddin bin Abang Ahmad Masuine, Deputy Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department. Members of the mosque committee and residents also gathered to welcome him.
The prayers were led by Al-Fadhil Ustaz Isman Hadi bin Jaafar, Imam II of the mosque, while the sermon titled “Akhlak Mulia, Pelindung Remaja” (Noble Character, Protector of Youth) was delivered by Alfadhil Ustaz Muhammad Syafiq bin Sabri, Imam I of Masjid Darul Hana Patingan. The message emphasised the importance of moral values in guiding young people and preserving unity.
Among the congregation were Datuk Ibrahim Baki, Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) and Satok State Assemblyman, as well as Dato Sri Haji Syed Hamzah bin Syed Paie, Senior Private Secretary to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak. Around 250 worshippers attended the prayers.
Following the service, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi greeted worshippers, signed the mosque’s visitor book, and posed for commemorative photographs with committee members.
He also presented donations to tahfiz students and children from Pondok Hidayatul Mubtadi-iin Wa Tahfidzul Quran, offering words of encouragement to the young learners.
In his remarks, the Head of State expressed appreciation to the mosque committee for their efforts and urged Muslims to reflect on the sermon’s lessons.
He called on the community to nurture a generation that is strong in identity, united in faith, and committed to preserving the purity of Islam while contributing to Sarawak’s prosperity and peace.
The event highlighted the close relationship between Sarawak’s leadership and its people, reinforcing the role of religious institutions in fostering unity and community spirit.
