Sarawak Hope Run 2025 Unites Runners & Fighters for Children

KUCHING – A casual collaboration between local runners and Muay Thai fighters has grown into a major charity initiative, with the Sarawak Hope Run 2025 set to unite sports enthusiasts in support of children’s welfare.

The event, scheduled for 21 December 2025 at Padang Merdeka, will feature a five-kilometre run and a one-mile walk. Organised jointly by Revolution Run (RevRun) and Drills Running Club, it is supported by the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Talent Development (MYSED) and Rentap Muay Thai Gym. The venue is provided by Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan.

Proceeds from the charity run will be channelled to four organisations dedicated to children’s needs: Rumah Kanak-Kanak Toh Puan Hajah Norkiah, PERKATA, the Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia, and the Kuching Autistic Association. The organisers have set a fundraising target of RM50,000.

Albert Tan, representing RevRun, explained that the idea stemmed from a desire to end the year with a meaningful initiative after months of community runs.

“The idea came when Jojo and the Rentap Fighters joined one of our trail runs. We realised we could use that same energy to help others. This time, we’re not promoting a fight, but fighting for something even greater: to raise funds for children in need,” he said.

The collaboration has drawn strong support from the Rentap Fighters, including Jojo, Kilatboy, Elias, Chicha, Mia, Miki, Kabilan, Boy Prata, and Hasbullah, who are encouraging fans and followers to contribute through social media campaigns.

For Jennana Johnson, widely known as Jojo’s mother, the initiative reflects gratitude to the community. “This is for charity, and we want to give back to the community because the community has given us so much. Each of our fighters will be raising funds through their social media, all for the children. Every contribution counts,” she said.

The organisers believe the event demonstrates how sports can be a powerful tool for social good. Albert added: “When passion meets purpose, even a simple run can make a big difference.”

The Sarawak Hope Run 2025 is expected to attract a wide range of participants, from casual walkers to seasoned runners, alongside martial arts supporters.

Beyond fundraising, the event aims to highlight the importance of community solidarity and the role of sports in inspiring positive change.

By combining the energy of runners and fighters, the organisers hope to showcase Sarawak’s spirit of generosity and remind the public that kindness and athletic passion can go hand in hand.
